Open House February 24 at Tarpon Talkers

The meeting coming up this week [in 2010] is our open house. Teachers and staff members of St. Pete College have been invited. The general public is cordially invited. I’m even inviting my two friends.

The meeting is oriented towards showing what a Toastmasters Club meeting is like. I’m hoping to give a talk on Advocating Toastmasters. Robert will be giving a talk on a recent discovery about learning skills.

Arnie is to be Toastmaster for the meeting. Loretta will serve as General Evaluator. Mel is up for Table Topics Master.

I’ll be contacting other members to completely fill out the agenda before the green flag drops.

Don’t miss this one!

Attention Online SPC Speech Students

Yesterday, one of the online speech class students came to our meeting. Sarah had the intention of completing an outside assignment by giving a talk in front of us and video recording it.

We got her lap top computer situated for the web cam to see her talk. Then, she gave an excellent presentation on the benefits of smoothies.

In the course of her presentation, she even made a carafe of smoothie, right in front of us. And we got to sample it! It was great.

Unfortunately, the talk did not take online.

The problem, as we see it, is the lack of band width available by wifi at the Rho building.
There is not enough to get the job done.

I notice that there is an ethernet connection. I don’t know if it can be used for this purpose, though.

The bottom line is this. You are welcome to attend our meeting on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 6:30 PM in the Rho building. If arranged ahead of time, you may be able to give a talk, if you wish.

But, don’t count on getting your talk online directly through the online course server.
(You might look into the use of the ethernet connection.)
